I spent the weekend in Spooner Wisconsin with 5 of my beautiful friends.
My friend Carol sings in my chorus here in Rochester. She has three sisters who live in Buffalo Minnesota and sing in a Sweet Adeline chorus there. The four of them sing in a quartet called, Simply Magic. They have one more sister, Laurie, and she lives about 8 miles outside of Spooner.
They have a beautiful home which sits up above a rustling brook. There are at least 8 bird houses with all kinds of winter birds and now some of the returning summer birds.
There has been a big deal recently as there have been sightings of a very large Cougar. Laurie said it was sighted within a mile of their place, but we didn't see it.
We did see two Bald Eagles from her living room and watched the birds and red squirrels and at least two different kinds of woodpeckers.
On Friday night Carol and I ran into some very wet, heavy snow just past Baldwin, Wisconsin.
It collected on the road very quickly. When we got to Laurie's she assigned us to a room, where she had fresh flowers and candy on the pillows. Then the gals from Buffalo arrived and we all had some Punch and snacks.
Each year in the spring the quartet always has a retreat to tune up the songs they are singing on the competition stage. They have invited me to this quite a few times. Usually Laurie's daughter, Erika comes up and does a lot of the cooking. She is a gourmet cook. This year she wasn't able to come so Laurie and I did all the cooking.
Saturday morning we had a fairly simple breakfast. Laurie took English Muffins and toasted the open part. Then we turned them over and put a slice of Canadian Bacon, a slice of cored apple, a slice of Mozzarella cheese, and a slice of Pineapple. She put this under the broiler. They were really yummy!!
I made lunch for that day. I had cooked my chicken before I left home. So I made Chicken Noodle Soup, the frozen bread dough rolls, cheese sticks, and a chocolate cake.
For dinner, Laurie and I made BBQ ribs, baked Potatoes, green beans, and a jello salad. In between the meals and clean up, Laurie and I listened to the quartet and gave some of our opinions. They talked about costumes and sang a lot.
After dinner on saturday night we all cleaned up a bit and went to the Spooner High School to a play. It was "Stage Door" and it was really good.
On Sunday we sat around for quite a while drinking coffee and watching the birds. Then Laurie and I fixed a brunch.
On our way home around Lake City, Carol and I saw lots and lots of Bald Eagles sitting on the edge of the ice.
It was a very fun weekend.
