Jerry's long, exciting journey!

  • Jerry flew out of the Lindberg terminal @ 7:05 am on Wed. Aug. 12th. They landed @ the JF Kennedy airport in New York @ 10:42 am. They left the gate on time @ 1 pm, but soon they were told about some severe storms in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area, so they would have to wait it out for some time.
  • This ended up being two hours and then they were loaded into a bus and taken back to the terminal, as by now there were no longer a space for the aircraft.
  • The airline tried to get them on two different flights @ 5:30 or 9:30 pm. This didn't work out.
  • So @ 9 pm they boarded a smaller plane and sent to Atlanta. They landed there @ 10:45 pm and found some benches to sleep for the night.
  • They left Atlanta on Thursday morning @ 7:30 am and got to Norfolk @ 8:30 am only to find out that their luggage was probably still in New York.
  • Jerry found a 7/11 gas station to get a tooth brush and paste. He rented a car and drove around on Thursday. He said the hotel in Virginia Beach was very fancy. President's have stayed there. He also said that it rained every day.
  • On Friday he was already signed up for a guided tour.
  • First they toured on a bus thru the Navy base, had lunch on the base and then took a Harbor Cruise. He said they passed by several Navy ships and cruised around Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Saw a large Maritime Museum.
  • On Friday night @ 7:30 pm his luggage finally found him.
  • His flight coming back home was uneventful.
  • He got to our house at 7:30 pm on Sat.

It sounds like he had a good time - in spite of the glitches with his flights - and renewed friendships with old Navy buddies and their wives. I'm glad he got home safely.

What an adventure getting there. Knowing Jerry there were no complaints from him. The way I see it--you might as well make something like that into an adventure. That is the choice I would make. Sounds like he had a good time and I am glad he is safe & sound at home.
