I (Virginia/Allan), take you (Allan/Virginia), to be my lawfully wedded (husband/wife),
to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, from this day forward until death do us part.
I was 8 years old when Aunt Ginny and Uncle Allan got married. At this age, most little girls lived in a make believe, sort of fantasy life. I remember thinking that Aunt Ginny was the most beautiful bride in the entire world. And actually I think she was. The gown was absolutely gorgeous. And Allan was so handsome.
I think so often of the wedding vows that so many of us have taken over the years, and I think that Ginny and Allan have lived them to the fullest. They have endured tough times and good times, and through it all they have remained true to their wedding vows. I salute both of you for this.
I have loved each and every visit to your homes and when you visited ours. I remember when Dave and Linda were small and they would let me hold them. Everyone thought it was because my hair was sort of the same color as Ginny's, so they weren't afraid. This was especially true with "shy Di"!
And even though you lived far away most of the time, whenever I needed you, your prayers and your support were always there.
A few very special times were when we visited you in New York City. It was a long time ago, but I remember a lot about it.
And so many trips to Chicago and all the things we got to do. Going to the Science Museum & the Aquarium. Going downtown to the Sears tower & the John Hancock building. And the time Dave and I went with you by the Aquarium to watch a parade on the water. Every time was something very special.
Another special time was when you (Aunt Ginny) went with us to Holland Michigan. It was so much fun.
And there were also the times when you lived in Mankato.
Like cousin Pat said, we have many, many differences, but we seem to always have respect for each other's differences and opinions. We are a small family, but I think we all have very big "hearts".
I still look forward to your "Happy Friday" emails, please keep them coming. I love you both very much, you're the best.
