Day # 8 Halifax, Nova Scotia

Peggy's Cove

Our tour guide with a live lobster
My Gingerbread Cake.....it was warm and deliciously, scrumptously, great!!!!

Pat and I didn't have a shore excursion planned for this port. When we disembarked from the ship we saw a sign that said "Tour Halifax on the Big Pink Sightseeing Hop on Hop Off Tour Bus" We checked out the info and decided it would be great to see all the sights and then decide if we wanted to go back to anything. It was great. There were three buses, A, B, & C. We sat on the upper deck of all three and toured three different parts of the city.
Halifax has a big Maritime Museum that features several Titanic exhibits. Halifax played a part in the disaster when three local ships contributed in the task of recovering victims. In fact, over 120 Titanic passengers were laid to rest in nearby Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
It also has a very large Victorian Public Garden. Some of the trees were planted by Royalty. It was 17 acres and very beautiful.
In the afternoon, Pat and I went on a tour to Peggy's Cove. The rock formations are hundreds of years old, left by eroding glaciers. There is a huge stone carving by William DeGarthe, which is a tribute to the people of this working fishing village. We past many places where we could see the nets to catch Mussels and also Lobster crates.
When you get to Peggy's Cove, which we were told 750,000 travelers visit a year, there is one of the most beautiful Light houses I have seen. It was very damp and windy when we got there. Pat went to the lighthouse, I went into the gift shop/restaurant. I shopped some and then went into the restaurant and ordered a fish sandwich and Gingerbread cake with whip cream. This had been suggested to us by our tour guide.
Peggy's Cove is one of the most popular stops in Atlantic Canada. Set on rocky shores, the lighthouse and village are a photographers paradise.

Peggy's Cove looks amazing - I would like to go there, too. And I agree with you. The ginger bread AND the french fries and cole slaw look good to me!
